McLean generally used "center-to-top" seat tube measurements ("British style")
 

According to Sherman Coventry,  the 5 digit serial number represents:
M prefix = McLean (not Silk Hope & 1979 or later)
1st two digits = day of the month
2nd set of two digits  = month
Last digit = last number of year (1976 would be "6")
